For those curious about the deer in the videos, the females are local residents that come by every other week as they wait for foliage to grow in their territory. It is pretty common to see Black-Tailed deer on the pacific coast but I didn’t expect them to introduce theirs fawns year after year.
I hope this video reflects just how intelligent and trusting animals are when we can work along side them.
Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is dedicated to protecting and conserving native wildlife and habitats. Be sure to support your local Department of Fish and Wildlife this year.
The USDA, Economic Research Service (ERS) states that in 2017, 29% of U.S. land is grassland pasture/range. While cropland takes up 17% percent of our nation (Winters-Michaud, Clayton et al, 2024). In other words, our native habitats are competing with the demand for agriculture. As native species risk extinction, keep in mind that habitat loss is the primary cause for higher extinction rates (United States Geological Survey, 2017).
