বাংলাদেশে ইলেকট্রিক অটোরিকশা এসেছে মূলত ইলেকট্রিক থ্রি-হুইলার ও প্রচলিত প্যাডেল রিকশার মিশ্রণ হিসেবে। রিকশার সহজ কাঠামোর সঙ্গে বৈদ্যুতিক শক্তির সুবিধা যুক্ত হওয়ায় এটি চালকদের জন্য শ্রম কমিয়ে আয়ের নতুন পথ খুলে দিয়েছে। কম খরচ, সহজ পরিচালনা ও কর্মসংস্থানের সুযোগ থাকায় এটি দ্রুত জনপ্রিয়তা পেয়েছে। তবে কোনো সুনির্দিষ্ট নীতিমালা না থাকায় এটি প্রধান সড়কে যানজট ও দুর্ঘটনার ঝুঁকি বাড়াচ্ছে। প্যাডেল রিকশার তুলনায় লাভজনক হলেও, প্রশিক্ষণ ও কাঠামোগত মান না থাকায় ভবিষ্যতে এটি পরিবহন খাতে বড় সমস্যার কারণ হতে পারে।
