Written and composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, "Don't Cry For Me Argentina", featured in the musical "Evita", was originally sung by Julie Covington and reached #1 on the UK Singles chart in 1976. The song was covered by the Carpenters, Olivia Newton-John, Shirley Bassey, Sinead O'Connor, and even the dynamic duo from Glee, Lea Michele and Chris Colfer. Madonna had the most successful and highest charting cover in 1997 with her Miami Mix version.
In 1980, the studio dance/disco group Festival released a dance-oriented version of the Evita soundtrack, helmed by producer Boris Midney. Their cover of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" was the only single released from the album, reaching #72 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #94 on the Cash Box Top 100. The album made it to #3 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart.
This is the single 45 version. If you are a big Evita fan and interested in what a dance version would sound like, then this deserves a listen.
