Also characteristic is the so-called Laguna del Mort, a stretch of sea, which a strip of land separates from the rest of the Adriatic Sea.
Caorle is home to the tourist port of Santa Margherita, and the historic center looks like a small village, with "calli" (narrow alleys) and "campielli" (squares), flanked by pretty pastel-colored houses. The beautiful city hosted and inspired the famous writer Ernest Hemingway.
