Badagry, a coastal town in Lagos State, Nigeria, served as a major, brutal hub in the Trans-Atlantic slave trade from the 16th to 19th centuries, exporting an estimated 18 million people to the Americas. It was a key, recognized port for European merchants, who exchanged goods like guns, alcohol, and fabrics for enslaved individuals.
