Описание: Explosions in West Asia triggered a sharp market sell-off on Dalal Street, with the Nifty and Sensex wiping out nearly 8 lakh crore rupees within minutes. Aviation and export-linked stocks declined amid disruptions in the Gulf, while crude oil climbed above $82 per barrel due to fears surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, which is now shut. European markets also fell broadly. The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow maritime passage between Iran and Oman-UAE, is critical as roughly one-fifth of global oil supply passes through it daily. Major producers including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, UAE and Qatar depend on it for exports. For India, which imports over 80 per cent of its crude requirements, the closure directly impacts oil prices, the rupee, and inflation. Shipping costs have surged as vessels reroute around Africa, adding weeks to delivery times. Iran has warned it could disrupt commercial tankers passing through the strait.
