I wrote 'Naked In Death' at midnight 31st January 2023, the exact moment I turned 40 years old. I was watching the Yankee Hotel Foxtrot documentary on Wilco, coming to terms with entering a new decade in my pyjamas, whilst stroking my ever faithful cat, Kitkit / Polly Jean Harvey. I'd started therapy, to aid various traumas and rid me of my bad habits, since 8 months and this song was a response to that. An ode to exorcising my demons, to be at peace with who I was and who I want to be before the grim reaper appears, to be naked in death.

The words were written in one stream of consciousness, without music.

After recording all of the songs originally previewed for MAKE ART, Producer Paul Trigoulet asked Julien Ledru & I if we had any other songs we'd like to try. I had the text for 'Naked In Death' but no music. There was an Autoharp at Fausse Boutique Studios that I'd wanted to use on a song. I asked Paul which chords it was tuned to and Julien used these 3 chords and pattern waltz as the base for the song so we could record the autoharp after. This version of Naked In Death was the first time I got the words right. After recording the song we found out we'd made a mistake with the autoharp and it was actually tuned to 3 different chords so we never did get to play that instrument.

I asked Thomas Carpentier to play the violin as though he could see demons being exorcised from my body, to which he replied 'ok' and proceeded, amazingly, to do exactly that. 'Naked In Death' was completed with the vocals of Marina Cerrudo. Her first time in a studio, she had the task of synchronizing her vocals with mine in a song where the rhythmic and intonations change constantly. Incredibly her vocals stick like glue and add another level of ghostly presence to the song.
