When Elias Bennett's cryo-pod finally opened after 161 years—41 years late—he found himself alone on an empty colony ship. All 2,399 crew members had woken up decades earlier and descended to the planet below. But they never came back.

Kepler-442b was supposed to be humanity's new home among the stars. Instead, Elias discovers that humanity has evolved into something he can barely comprehend. Massive living structures pulse across the planet's surface. The atmosphere itself has changed, optimized for neural connectivity but lethal to unmodified humans. And every single person who descended has transformed into something beautiful, terrible, and no longer quite human.

As Elias explores the ghost ship, he uncovers the truth: Earth underwent the same transformation decades ago. Humanity didn't go extinct—it transcended. And now they're all waiting for him. Calling to him. Offering him connection, understanding, and an end to loneliness. All he has to do is say yes.

But Elias is the last unaltered human consciousness in existence. And someone has to remember what humanity was before it became something else. Someone has to hold the line. Someone has to witness what we've become so the transformation means something.
