In a historic milestone for India’s mining and construction equipment industry, an all-women team from L&T Construction & Mining Machinery (L&T CMB) has successfully commissioned a 100-tonne payload dump truck at Tata Steel’s Noamundi iron ore mine in Jharkhand.
For the first time in India, a machine of this scale and complexity was assembled, tested, and commissioned entirely by women engineers and technicians. The mammoth Komatsu HD785-7, powered by a 1200 HP engine and equipped with advanced systems like KOMTRAX Plus telematics, was commissioned in just six days, despite challenging monsoon conditions.
From axle mounting to hydraulic integration, every step was executed with precision, teamwork, and resilience. The journey came full circle when the machine was ceremonially handed over to an all-women operator crew, marking a proud moment of continuity and inclusion.
This achievement reflects L&T’s strong commitment to gender inclusivity, skill development, and empowering women in core engineering roles—proving that when opportunity meets capability, barriers disappear.
