At the Rotary International Sidney by the Sea Rotary breakfast at the Mary Winspear Centre, travelers Michael and Angela Greer shared the remarkable story behind the TWONIE Project — a 10-year motorcycle journey around the world with a humanitarian purpose.
Riding two Honda motorcycles, the couple has already traveled 46,000 kilometres from Vancouver Island to Peru, visiting communities, orphanages, and grassroots projects helping children in need. Their philosophy is simple but powerful: small contributions can create real change.
Through their initiative, supporters are encouraged to donate as little as $2 a month (“a toonie”), which goes directly to the projects they encounter along the way. None of the funds support their travel — every dollar goes to helping local communities.
Along their journey across 13 countries, they have already helped:
• Provide food for street children in Colombia
• Purchase washing machines and baby supplies
• Repair minibus engines for community transport
• Support orphanages and child-focused programs
Despite concerns about global instability, Michael and Angela explain that local knowledge, careful planning, and conversations with people on the ground have helped them safely navigate regions often portrayed negatively in the news.
Their travels are documented through YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook, where followers can see daily updates, short travel clips, and deeper stories about the communities they visit.
The Rotary audience in Sidney was taken far beyond the breakfast room — on a journey that proves adventure, generosity, and storytelling can make a difference around the world.
