STORYLINE:
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban arrived in Beijing on Sunday night for the upcoming Belt and Road Forum.

Orban landed in a Hungarian Air Force plane and was greeted by honour guards and performers before being driven away.

China will host a forum next week showcasing the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which was launched 10 years ago to boost trade and investment by improving China’s transport links with the rest of the world.

Representatives from more than 130 countries will attend the forum, according to Chinese authorities.

China is touting its the Belt and Road Initiative as an alternative model for economic growth as it seeks to win friends and strengthen its leadership of the developing world.

A recent Chinese government report praised the program, which has provided financing to build ports, power plants and other projects around the world.

But critics of the initiative say it has saddled poor countries with too much debt and also increased global emissions of climate changing greenhouse gases.
