Second lesson with a Pyrenees Mountain Dog mix, also known as a Colorado Mountain Dog.
This session is all about the place command.
Place means get on this object and stay there until released.
We use place for three reasons:
• A calm spot when someone knocks or comes through the door
• Teaching a rock-solid stay through repetition and muscle memory
• Building real impulse control instead of chaos management
We start by getting him comfortable on place with zero pressure.
Once he understands the job, we layer in the e-collar using my blueprint.
No guessing. No nagging. We only turn it up if there’s no attempt.
Then we make it more difficult.
Stay work begins.
The floor becomes lava.
After some Olympic-level dramatics, he locks in and stays like an anchor.
Clear communication equals a big, happy dog!
