Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad - A Victorian Jubilee

Описание: In 1970, the states of Colorado and New Mexico both took joint ownership of the then newly formed, Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, which spans across the Great American Southwest for 64 miles. Not only is it the longest tourist railroad in the United States, but it's also the highest, as the railroad crosses the Continental Divide at Cumbres Pass all the way up at 10,022 feet.
2020 marked the 50th Anniversary of operations on the Cumbres & Toltec with plans to bring in locomotives from other railroads. Obviously, this never happened as the COVID-19 outbreak postponed the event to an unknown time.
On the bright side, the railroad postponed the event by a year. What followed was a week of 19th Century Steam action on the Cumbres & Toltec for a whole week. Locomotives that attended were as follows, Eureka & Palisade #4 "Eureka" from Dan Markoff's home in Las Vegas, NV, Carson & Tahoe Lumber & Fluming Co. #1 "Glenbrook" from the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City, NV, Denver & Rio Grande Western #315, dressed up as Denver & Rio Grande #425, owned by the Durango Railroad Historical Society in Durango, Colorado, and Denver & Rio Grande #168, owned by the Cumbres & Toltec.
Together, all four of these locomotives put on a grand display of what railroading was like back in the late 1800s when the American West was still a massive frontier widely unknown to the common person.

We were very honored to attend this very special event, as this was truly a once in a lifetime event and I would like to thank every single individual who helped out with this event as this was definitely my favorite railroading experience of the year, let alone my favorite of all time.
