Can’t Help Falling in Love didn’t begin as a love song.
Its melody traces back to “Plaisir d’amour”, a French romance written in 1784 by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini.
A melody about fleeting joy and inevitable sorrow, long before pop music existed.
Nearly two centuries later, that same melody resurfaced in a completely different world.
In 1961, songwriters Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore, and George David Weiss reimagined it with new lyrics, shaping it into Can’t Help Falling in Love, recorded by Elvis Presley for the film Blue Hawaii.
What’s rarely mentioned is that Elvis himself was unsure about the song at first.
It felt old-fashioned. Too gentle. Too exposed.
It went on to become one of the most enduring love songs ever written, and the closing song of his live performances, a quiet ritual that ended even his loudest shows in stillness.
Since then, the melody has crossed generations, languages, and genres, from classical interpretations to pop covers, always returning to the same emotional core: surrender.
At Orchestrax, we don’t reinterpret the voice.
We return to the melody itself.
By placing this timeless theme back into a full orchestral landscape, we’re not covering a song. We’re honoring a lineage that began in the 18th century and still moves people today.
Some melodies don’t age.
They wait to be heard again.
Follow Orchestrax for more orchestral journeys into the stories behind the music.
