Hi, Matt with etrailer. Today, we're gonna talk about the Thule OutPace Bike Rack on the back of our 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe. Now this will be a great option if you're looking for a rack that's gonna be really easy to use, very versatile, and is' it gonna take up any space on the Tahoe when you're driving around, when you're fold it up, it's gonna be very compact. And then when you come home, if this still isn't gonna fit in your garage, you can just simply take this off and tuck it in a corner somewhere. If you do decide to go with this, let us know how you like it on the back of your 2022 Tahoe. But today I'm mainly just be focusing on what it is going to be like to live with your Tahoe.
Now, the first thing I wanna talk about is how the bike itself is sitting back here 'cause sometimes if you have a mountain bike especially, it's gonna sit really close to our vehicle. We don't have that issue today. Even if you're on those really bumpy roads, we're nowhere close to making contact with anything. Now if you want hatch access, I'm gonna have to tilt my bike away. I'm gonna do that.
All they have to do is come back here and pull on this rubber cable here. It's gonna drop this down. Issue here, a really good tote, even with the having the weight capacity of 55 pounds per bike. So you can even accommodate your smaller e-bikes. Now when you lift that lift gate up, it is be fairly close, but if you just kind of move those pedals around, you shouldn't make contact with anything.
But this would be a good point here, if you need to put away any groceries, you can do that or if you just want to get ready for your ride, grab your helmet, tie your shoes, you can do that. And once your done, you can close this back up and put this back into the seated position just by pushing on it, just like this. Now, if we wanna take a closer look at the rack, I'm gonna to remove my bike. So do that, we're gonna have you strap on the back tire. I just press on this gray button here and pull that out.
It's out of our way. Now, for the one on the front, since you're gonna have two of these, I'm just gonna lift this arm a little bit up so it's out of our way, give you guys a better idea of what I'm doing. This will also have a ratcheting device on here so you can get this extra tight. And with the help of two straps on your tires, that's how you really get that good hold on here. Now you're gonna have a third point and that's gonna be making direct contact with your frame. I know some people don't like this for carbon frame bikes, but since this isn't a plain downward force, in most cases, I think it's fine. But definitely keep that in mind. if you have a nice paint job or you still don't like making any frame con contact with for your carbon frame bikes. And then when you're done with that, just lift up and then you can take it out for a ride so we can put everything back into place. And to do that, you have two options. One, it's gonna be pushing this down and then you can fold these cradles into place. I personally don't like doing that, and I'll show you here in a second or two. But before that I'm gonna put these straps in so it looks a little bit nicer. And with that arm down, it's fine, just like this. First I'm gonna give you a couple measurements and see how it's gonna look back here. So the first measurement I'm gonna get is gonna be the ground clearance. And right now we have a lot, and that's almost gonna be 36," which is no way that is we making contact with the ground. What it does, gotta, oh, something to keep in mind with that is if you have those wider e-bikes, lifting them up that high might be a little bit difficult. So definitely keep that in mind. Now for the total distance away, it sits from our back bumper to the back of the rack, that's gonna be a little bit over 27," which is pretty compact for a two bike carrier, but we can save more space. So if you pull this strap here, push up, and in this position only gonna be sitting at about 9," so that's really compact. So when you are backing up into a garage or a parking space, most cases you're gonna be fine with this. Now this is the reason why I don't like folding these cradles in because if I fold those in, I'm gonna block some important things back here, like my license plate. We're gonna ha
