Lagging the racquet arm behind the toss arm can benefit your serve. In this serve lesson I will not only show you how to serve with a racquet lag but also provide examples of some of the greatest serves in tennis history that use the lag technique. Players such as Sampras, Becker, Stich, Ivanisevic, Isner, Querrey, Lopez, Karlovic, Lisicki, Keys, Vandeweghe, Georges, and the Pliskova & Williams sisters all serve with a racquet lag. Out of the top 20 all-time ace leaders on the ATP Tour, only one player uses the up together technique and that is Andy Roddick. The WTA tour doesn't keep track of all-time ace statistics so if we look at the current top 20 aces leaders (June 2019) there is only one player (Caroline Garcia) who doesn't use the racket lag on the serve.
