The Metropolitan Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro has a very unique and impressive architecture. It is based on Mayan pyramids.
Conical in form and with a 315 ft internal diameter, 347 feet of external diameter — and an overall height of 246 feet. The cathedral has 5,000 seats and a standing-room capacity of 20,000 people.
The cathedral's four rectilinear stained glass windows soar 210 feet from floor to ceiling, providing vivid colors.
The Metropolitan Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Sebastian, the patron saint of Rio de Janeiro.
