Thoughts:
Ninja Assault is a light gun shooter by Now Production and published by Namco. Originally released for the arcades and later for the Sony Playstation 2 with the Guncon 2 bundled with it. The Sony Playstation 2 version has three extra chapters and an extra playable character. It also has bonus games. The game takes place in feudal Japan where Princess Koto has been kidnaped in order to be used to resurrect an ancient demon. You take the role of one of her two Ninja retainers who wield guns who must rescue her and put a stop to the demonic menace.
Ninja Assault plays a lot like a lot of Namco's other light gun games from this era like Vampire Night for instance. There are quite a few powerups that are hidden in pots in stages. The game can be quite challenging as well, especially near the end. The lines are corny, but overall the game doesn't feel too fun compared to some other light gun games. I think It's because the game just feels too busy. Too much is thrown at you and there isn't enough to make it interesting to make you come back to it unlike say Vampire Night or the Time Crisis games. I guess the guess the feudal Japan theme is nice though.
As mentioned earlier this was brought over to to Sony Playstation 2 which is it's only port. If you happen to have a CRT laying around somewhere and a Guncon 2 then you can play it it the way it was intended. Otherwise play it on an emulator with a mouse or with a PC lightgun like a Sinden If you interested in checking it out.
