A devastating flash flood and landslide struck Darali village in Uttarakhand, northern India, on August 5th, leaving at least 4 dead and dozens missing. A massive surge of muddy water engulfed the village, burying homes under 15 meters of mud and cutting off roads and communication. Local news footage shows the terrifying floods sweeping through the area as villagers frantically warn each other to escape. Over 130 people were rescued overnight, but many remain unaccounted for. Experts attribute the disaster to climate change, possibly triggered by a glacial lake outburst combined with intense rainfall of up to 210mm in hours.
