A speeding red vehicle collided with a hydro pole, causing live power lines to fall dangerously across the roadway. Moments later, TTC bus fleet number 7954 on Route 165 Weston Road North narrowly avoided driving into the downed live wires, stopping approximately 30 feet from the hazard. Witnesses reported a bright flash on impact, and one nearby resident, James, ran out from his balcony to check on the situation — later saying he felt fortunate to have avoided serious injury when the wires and transformer sparked near him.
Police, Toronto Fire Services, and Toronto Hydro crews responded promptly to secure the scene and restore power, working to protect public safety and clear the roadway.
Toward the end of the video, you’ll also see TTC bus fleet number 1361 on Route 96 Wilson performing a three-point turn in the center of the closed road as traffic was being managed around the incident.
🚌 Transit Details
• TTC Bus 7954 — Orion VII (retired model)
Bus 7954 is part of the Toronto Transit Commission Orion VII series, a classic low-floor transit bus model built by Orion Bus Industries and widely used in the TTC fleet before retirement. The Orion VII served in regular full-size service across many routes and was known for its accessibility features, including low floors, wheelchair ramps, and automatic stop announcements — though the diesel-powered series has since been phased out of active service.
• TTC Bus 1361 — Hybrid-Electric Bus
Bus 1361 is a TTC hybrid-electric model, part of the commission’s efforts to reduce fuel use and emissions while still maintaining heavy-duty urban service. These buses combine a traditional diesel engine with electric propulsion systems to improve efficiency in stop-and-go urban traffic.
• Route 165 Weston Road North
Route 165 serves riders traveling along Weston Road north of Steeles Avenue, linking residential areas to transit connections, including subway stations and other surface routes.
• Route 96 Wilson
Route 96 Wilson runs in northwest Toronto, connecting major destinations and providing frequent service across key local corridors while interfacing with the subway network.
