Corps Security had the great priveledge to welcome Figen Murray to the Royal Opera House to discuss Martyn's Law, otherwise known as Protect Duty.
Counter-terrorism expert and public speaker, Figen Murray OBE provides a unique opportunity to hear and discuss first-hand what to expect when Protect Duty comes into law next year.
Figen Murray is the mother of Martyn Hett, who alongside 22 other concert goers, was tragically killed in the Manchester Arena Bombing on 22nd May 2017. Since the loss of her son, Figen has worked closely with the Home Office and across the security sector to make changes to legislation with the development of Martyn’s Law, or as it will be officially known, Protect Duty.
What is Protect Duty and why does it matter to you?
Protect Duty is a new piece of legislation that is due to be ingrained into UK law next year. It seeks to ensure that certain predetermined venues and sites, or events and activities attended by over 100 people, are suitably prepared for a terrorist attack. Whilst terrorism preparedness has been a focus within professional security training both before and increasingly after the Manchester attack, the legislation will require you, as a business, to work with your security provider to be educated, implement new systems, and provide additional security to prevent and prepare for potential acts of terrorism.
A presentation and talk by Figen Murray
Figen very kindly agreed to an exclusive presentation, talk and Q&A session with Corps Security, and our invitation only special guests. In this video, Figen will discuss her work over the last five years with the Home Office and professional security services to address the issue of terrorism, and to ensure the public, wherever they attend, can be sure everything is in place to help prevent any further loss of life through terrorism. Figen will provide deep and educated insight into the upcoming Protect Duty and what it means for you as a business and individuals.
About Figen Murray - RESILIENCE IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY
Figen Murray is the mother of Martyn Hett, who at 29 years of age was tragically killed alongside 21 others at the Manchester Arena terrorist attack in May 2017.
Her talk is about resilience and strength in the face of adversity. Shortly after her son’s death Figen did a Masters in Counterterrorism which she passed with distinction. She also started campaigning for legislation to bring about mandatory security at public venues. She is working closely with the home office to establish this legislation.
Figen is an experienced keynote speaker appearing at major conferences and training events both in the UK and abroad.
As a result of all her work with the home office and the security sector she has been awarded an OBE for her contribution to counterterrorism.
Her talk offers five take away skills that are useful to people both in work but also privately. They helped her navigate life through the toughest and most challenging times of her live dealing with Martyn's death and the aftermath. Figen believes that these skills are useful for listeners as they will help people deal with potentially very difficult situations.
