Pores on face are openings of oil glands called as sebaceous glands. They are most commonly found on the cheeks. We call it as the malar area in medical terms. It is also found on the nose. So generally it is found on areas that are oily. It is not an abnormal thing or a disease. Although it is a definite cosmetic concern in few patients, especially those who have smooth skin, they have pores in certain areas, which draw their attention to the pores. So the treatment of pores is reducing the oil activity of the skin. So it can include tablets that can reduce oil activity. We also do carbon peels or laser toning or laser facial or Hollywood facial. This is a procedure where we apply carbon solution on the face and which is absorbed by the pores and Q switched laser is done on top of this. This Q switched laser heats the carbon particles to very high temperature and blasts them into pieces. So this sudden heating of carbon particles causes contraction of the pores. It also reduces activity of the oil glands. It causes temporary damage to the oil glands and hence shrinks the pores. So this procedure is a very convenient procedure and it can be done every 15 days for about 6 to 8 sessions, which gives long lasting result. Another procedure we do for open pores is called as microbotox or mesobotox. This is a small injection we do on the superficial layer of the skin, which contains a toxin known as botulium toxin, in a very diluted dose. Botulium toxin in a diluted dose causes shrinkage of oil glands and reduction of pores. Our botox is a temporary thing and it is done before an important function and a wedding . Because it is a simple procedure, it can also be repeated indefinitely once a month. This is because the effect of the procedure lasts one month. If the patient so desires, they can repeat it after a month.
