We’re back on the FJ45 project, wrapping up the bulk of the mock-up work before teardown for final coating and paint. Today’s mission: welding out the rear suspension links so we can flex out the suspension—and we’re making it happen with one of my favorite new shop tools. 🔧🔥
The Woodward Fab Through-Hole Welding Positioner changes the game for welding round tubing, link bars, turbo piping, and exhaust work. With an 8-inch 3-jaw chuck, a 2.5-inch through-hole, adjustable rotation speed (up to 8 RPM), and tilt capability from 0° to 90°, it lets you rotate your work smoothly for cleaner, more consistent welds.
In this video, you’ll see:
-Why the steering column’s fixed position makes it key to setup (just kidding — we're focusing on suspension today!)
-How the Woodward Fab positioner works for round and odd-shaped parts
-Tips for using the foot pedal, automatic rotation, and angle adjustments
-Welding techniques for strong, clean link assemblies
If you weld often, this is one tool you’ll wish you had sooner!
