DR-Z4SM on Track RAW IMPRESSIONS

I only got to ride this bike for the 5 laps you see in this video, but I have a few take-aways after having ridden a stock drz 400, KLX300SM and my KTM 450SMR race bike to compare to.

The DRZ is a comfortable supermoto. Heavy, a bit numb, but easy and forgiving to ride. Compare to the old bike, it has more torque for sure. The chassis feels a bit tighter. It does also feel a little heavier though. It has traction control and it is useless as it cuts in WAY too soon. Brakes are good. Seat is soft. On-Off throttle response is too sharp. Tires are okay but need to be sufficiently filled. In general, the bike is sluggish to steer, but this can be easily remedied from some quick setup changes.

The 2025 DR-Z4SM is a good machine, but it is geared too short and desperately needs a 6th gear. The traction control and ABS is terrible and a waste of money and weight. The ride modes include Slow and Slower.

In conclusion, the DR-Z4SM is a good machine, but it needs a pipe and tune to reach its full potential, and by then you are looking at a 10,000 dollar machine, not including dealer fees, registration and taxes. It's not a bad bike, but I can go just as fast if not faster around the same kart track for nearly half the money on a KLX 300SM.
