In this video, I will show you how to make a 1920s cold cream delicately scented with rose, germanium, and bergamot.
Recipe Notes
-This recipe has been adapted from The Druggists Circular Formula Book (1920)
-The only major change I've made to the original recipe is replacing the spermaceti with jojoba oil (plus a touch more beeswax).
-Using a white beeswax might produce a more pearl-like shade but I’ve just used the regular yellow stuff.
-The original recipe also suggested adding in a pinch of blue or purple pigment to make the cream closer to a white colour if desired (sort of like adding bluing to yellowed laundry). I’m fine with the cream shade of mine, so I didn’t bother with this additional step.
If you choose to make this without a preservative, I recommend storing it in the fridge. I've had good luck with this extending a non-preserved cream's shelf-life from one or two weeks to nearly a month. (Using a preservative will extend that to over a year on a countertop.)
