Denise Katrina Matthews, known as Vanity, was a Canadian model who rose to fame after being discovered by Prince. She later became the lead singer of the all-girl group "Vanity 6." She gained further recognition for her role as the love interest of Bruce LeRoy in the 1985 film "The Last Dragon," as highlighted in a 1985 interview with Greg Gumble on the Ebony Jet Showcase series. However, her life took a tumultuous turn when, in 1994, she overdosed on crack cocaine, leading to near-fatal kidney failure. Following her recovery, Vanity underwent a profound transformation, embracing Christianity and renouncing both her stage name and her career in show business. Tragically, she succumbed to kidney disease on February 15, 2016. 🕊️
