After your competition season is now time to give your boat some rest and when that happens you should take in consideration some details.
Storing a composite kayak for a long period requires careful preparation to protect it from damage, especially if you plan to use it again in full condition in the next season.
So we helps you with a checklist to guide you through this process:
Pre-Storage Maintenance
Clean entirely your boat:
Wash with fresh water to remove any dirt and salt.
Use a soft soap if needed, especially after saltwater use.
Flush all compartments as rudder box and all fittings.
Dry it completely:
Ensure your boat is fully dry inside and out to prevent any mould and mildew.
Leave the rudder hatch open
You can leave your boat in a dry environment for a few days to let moisture evaporate.
Inspect for Damage:
Check for cracks, chips, or weak spots on the hull and deck.
Repair any issues before storing. We recommend the Nelo Boat Care kit to any small repair.
Remove Accessories:
Take out your seat, footrest, all removable fittings, and other gear, such as the water bottle, to store them separately in a dry place.
Disassemble and lubricate them.
Storage Location
Find a Cool, Dry Place:
Avoid direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and moisture.
Choose indoor storage (garage, shed, or climate-controlled room) if possible.
Prevent Pressure Points:
Store your boat on a padded rack or hang it from wide straps (not too tight) that distribute weight evenly.
Store it horizontally or vertically, making sure there is no excessive pressure on any part of the kayak.
Cover the Kayak:
Use a breathable cover to protect it from dust and potential sun exposure.
By following this checklist, you can ensure your boat remains in good condition and is ready for the next season!
