Описание: Our Aim:
Dignity of labour is the idea that all types of jobs are respected equally, and no occupation is considered superior. Living in India our entire lives, the prevalence of dignity of labour resonates with us. Our aim is to raise awareness to create an environment that fosters respect for people of all profession.
Description of outcome:
For our action element, in order to encourage behaviour that creates a respectful environment for people of all professions, we decided to target the root of the problem. We did this in our school by starting a campaign that encouraged the treatment of support staff as individuals. Through our research we found that local residents and those who have been raised in India seem to be contributing to this problem. We hypothesized that it could stem from the caste system and its manifestations in today’s society. Needless to say, the effect of such long standing stereotypes and prejudices was not something we would be able to abolish through a group project, but we could provide a new narrative for those unaffected by these norms. Our target audience: children, the young impressionable minds that could do away with the need for dignity of labour and create an environment that fosters dignity for people of all professions. By making children’s books with ideas such as valuing and respecting people of all professions, boiled down to the simplest principles of respect and value between farm animals, we allow children to understand why that is something that they must do, and hopefully they would be able to apply that to situations in their lives. Additionally, by starting such discussions with their parents, we hope that parents would be mindful of dignity of labour when speaking to their children.
