THE CHAMPIONS OF WIMBLEDON
While the question on the men's side is if Novak Djokovic can equal Roger Federer's record of 8 Wimbledon titles, we want to focus on the women today. With his 23rd Grand Slam title, won at Roland Garros 2023, Novak Djokovic not only surpassed Rafael Nadal as the leader of the Grand Slam race on the men's side, he also equalled Serena Williams' women's record. Many of her Grand Slam titles came at Wimbledon. But on the grass courts even her sister Venus was a force to be reckoned with. In the early 2000s the Williams sisters featured in several Wimbledon finals - an amazing story in sports.

Other big names of Women's tennis in the Open Era also wrote Wimbledon history. The two friends and rivals Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova faced each other in many finals too while Steffi Graf dominated the grass courts in the 1990s.

As the tournament could not be held in 2020 (due to reasons) and the 2021 Wimbledon champion Ash Barty retired from Tennis, it seems like Elena Rybakina - who took the title in 2022 and is the current No 3 in the WTA Ranking - is the only past champion with a proper chance to extend her title tally and rise amongst the Wimbledon ranking. Otherwise we might get a new Wimbledon championesse.
