Welcome to #Jerusalem, #HolyCity to all three #monotheistic #religions. In this video, we will silently walk through the #GardenOfGethsemane and explore the adjacent #ChurchOfAgony, which is also known as the #ChurchOfAllNations.

The name #Gethsemane comes from the Hebrew word #GatShmanim, which means #OilPress. During the time of #Jesus, this entire area of the #MountOfOlives had been an industrial area for the production of #OliveOil. This #OliveOil had traditionally been used for the #anointment of the #KingsOfJudah.

The Garden of Gethsemane (00:30)
This garden commemorates the place that #Jesus and three of his #Disciples had visited after the #LastSupper. #Jesus had come to pray in this garden in order to ask #God to release him of the burden of #Crucifixion, which he knew he had to go through the next day - #GoodFriday.

Although #Jesus asked his accompanying #Disciples to stay awake while he himself prayed to #God, they fell asleep and thereby left him alone in his time of need. In this garden, #Jesus asked #God to remove the #CupOfSuffering from him. It was during this time of agony and profound suffering that his sweat dripped on the ground like drops of blood.

The #OliveTrees in this garden are approximately 800-900 years old, and we can assume that they are the descendants of the trees that stood here when #Jesus walked through this garden.

Entrance area of the Church of Agony (04:55)
This modern #FranciscanChurch was completed in #1924 by renowned #Italian #architect #AntonioBarluzzi. In order to make visitors really feel the biblical story that is commemorated here, #Barluzzi kept this church very dark by using #alabaster (06:15) instead of glass in the windows. Furthermore, we can see that the interior of the domes in this church are painted in dark blue (07:25) in order to mimic the night sky that #Jesus experienced while praying in this garden.

Eastern End of the #ChurchOfAgony (07:40)
At the eastern end of the church we can see the #apse, underneath which is the most important item of this church: The #bedrock upon which #Jesus prayed on that Thursday night. Behind the rock (08:15) we can see the altar that is used during prayer services in this church, and behind the altar we see a mosaic showing #Jesus (07:50), as he is praying to the #FatherInHeaven.

The mosaic in the left (northern) apse (09:20) shows how #Jesus is betrayed by #Judas with a kiss, while the #mosaic in the right (southern) apse (06:40) shows us how #Jesus heals the ear of #Malchus, which has been cut off by #Peter in an attempt to prevent the #ArrestOfJesus.

#Façade of the #ChurchOfAgony (15:00)
The #façade of the #ChurchOfAgony is best seen from across the street from the church. Here we can see #Jesus in the middle, suffering through the #Agony of this evening, praying to the #FatherInHeaven. To the left and the right we can see groups of people representing different parts of society, as they all equally mourn the #DeathOfJesus.
