Continuous Welded Rail Train Flying Around Tight Curve On Super Elevated Track. CSX & Norfolk Southern Trains In Glencoe, Kentucky & Walton, Kentucky, USA.
New territory for me to explore. I went to Glencoe, Kentucky to catch a huge CSX mixed freight. I was listening to 161.370 for the southbound when I heard a defect detector activate at mile post 67.8 for a northbound. That was a nice surprise. I found a good spot to film from and as it turned out I was blessed to get the best side of the track. Had I chose the other side of the tracks the video wouldn't have been very good because the train on that side stopped to let the other train pass. I was able to film all of the locomotives passing each other in the 3 track yard. There are about 8 trains a day through here so I knew it would be a while until another train would come so I left for Walton, Kentucky to see if I could get some Norfolk Southern action.
In Walton, I stopped at the railroad crossing on Locust Street. This is a super elevated curve to allow for faster trains. My luck held up and I caught a continuous welded rail train ( CWR ). The train was empty but these are very interesting trains no matter what. This one was booking!
I also got 3 more CSX trains. The first one is the Ghent local. This mixed freight comes from the industrial spur that runs along the Ohio River and ties into the CSX mainline at Worthville, Kentucky. It is a daily train. The next two are daily intermodal trains that run between Louisville, Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio. The last one came when I was leaving so I pulled over at a railroad crossing and aimed my head lights at it. I had just left the Gaines home when I heard the train call out a signal at the south end of Bank Lick.
