Welcome to "Living in the Upside Down," a new study series drawn from the profound and incredibly timely book of Daniel.
Many of us look at the world today – the simmering anger, overt hatred, pervasive fear, and the ever-shifting moral landscape, the fixation on sexuality, or just the pervasive feeling that things are fundamentally "off" – and it genuinely feels like we're living in a strange, parallel dimension, a distorted reflection of God's intended kingdom and His righteous ways. This unsettling feeling isn't new; it's a deeply human experience that transcends generations and cultures.
The title, "Living in the Upside Down," is partly inspired by the popular TV show Stranger Things, where a dark, mirrored dimension, the "Upside Down," warps and twists the normal world. For the prophet Daniel and his friends, their exile to Babylon was an identical experience. They were abruptly thrust into a world where their cherished values, their very God, and their sacred way of life clashed dramatically with the dominant culture. They were a tiny minority, adherents of a conquered religion, living under the thumb of a pagan superpower.
