Here we capture KiwiRail's Freight trains in the South Auckland area as well as some Auckland Transport Suburban trains on Friday 14 March 2014 during my visit up north. Here we capture freights hauled behind some of KiwiRail's oldest diesel locomotives including a few ex-South Island DX class locos. The significant amount of use of DC, DFB, DFT, DXB & DXC locomotives in the North Island are due to a loco shortage because the 40 Chinese built DL locomotives were out of service after Asbestos was found inside the cab and across the side panels. So sit back, relax and turn up the noise as you'll experience a sight in the Auckland area that is rarely seen nowadays.
