Dilani Sandami, an #HNBSME customer, completed a degree and worked at a government job as an Accounts Clark for a while, but was never offered a permanent position. So she decided to play a more active role in the family business, which was named after her.

An unrecognisable two storey building stands in the place her grandmother’s simple hut once stood. “We got some loans from #HNB and upgraded our business to cater to the growing demand for our dodol. But before this, we used to travel to Colombo to take part in various fairs to gain some exposure and introduce our goods to a larger market. This also gave us the opportunity to meet vendors in the city and sell them our product in bulk. My sister played a significant role in opening a website for our business and attracting a wider array of customers from all over the world. She also introduced dodol hampers as gifts”.

“Today, we have built and expanded the business, and we have around 32 shops, all managed by our extended family. Due to the success of our business, we have also managed to buy houses, vehicles and land”.

“We have such a loyal group of customers because we never compromised on quality despite the constant price hikes of ingredients used in our dodol. Our family is the heart of the business and together, we will continue our grandmother’s legacy”.
