At NPCDC, we know that true community impact happens through partnership. When residents, local organizations, and compassionate funders come together, we can create safer, more accessible homes for seniors who deserve to live with comfort, dignity, and independence.
Brenda, a long-time resident, has experienced this partnership firsthand. Several years ago, when her hallway floor caved in, NPCDC’s Nehemiah Project stepped in to repair the flooring and baseboards—restoring stability and safety to her home.
Recently, Brenda faced another unexpected challenge when her hot water heater burst, leaving her with a high water bill and limited access to hot water. Remembering the help she received before, she reached out once again—and NPCDC was ready to respond.
Through the power of partnership and support from our community programs, Brenda’s home received important upgrades designed with accessibility and independence in mind. Our team:
-Repaired her hot water heater and installed new exterior piping for reliability.
-Added a grab bar in her bathroom, enhancing balance and safety.
-Installed lever-style faucets that are easier for seniors with limited hand strength to use.
-Added a handheld shower head, making daily routines more comfortable and accessible.
-Installed a security door, giving Brenda greater peace of mind and protection.
-Upgraded her hose connection to a more efficient model.
Thanks to these improvements, Brenda no longer has to rely on her daughter and grandchildren for daily support. She now enjoys the confidence of living independently in a safer, more accessible home.
At NPCDC, keeping seniors safe and removing barriers to independence is at the heart of our mission. By working together with our partners, we help older adults age in place with dignity, security, and peace of mind.
Brenda’s story is a beautiful example of how collaboration creates change—transforming homes, restoring hope, and strengthening our community one resident at a time.
Special thanks to the Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta, the Care and Conserve Plumbing Repair Program, and the Fulton County CSP Program for their continued partnership and commitment to making homes safer and more accessible for our seniors.
