Dadhichi willingly offered his life, saying that if his body could serve a greater good, he would be honored to give it up. After meditating and entering deep samadhi, he gave up his mortal body. The gods fashioned the Vajra from his bones, and with it, Indra defeated Vritra, restoring balance to the universe.
