CSIS Report Flags Khalistan Threat in Canada | India-Canada Ties Under Focus

Описание: Canada’s domestic intelligence agency Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) has acknowledged the threat posed by Khalistani extremist elements in its latest 2025 report tabled in Parliament.

The report states that Canada-based Khalistani extremist groups continue to promote a violent extremist agenda. It also highlights that the past year marked the 40th anniversary of the bombing of Air India Flight 182 bombing, which remains the deadliest terrorist attack in Canadian history, killing 329 people.

The CSIS assessment links some of these extremist networks to Canada-based actors and underscores ongoing security concerns.

India–Canada relations had previously deteriorated amid allegations of Canadian leniency towards separatist elements and claims by Ottawa regarding the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in 2023. India rejected those allegations, calling them politically motivated.

Diplomatic ties have shown signs of improvement following leadership changes in Canada, with Prime Minister Mark Carney taking office and later visiting India to reset engagement between the two countries.
