Powerful earthquake ‘jolts’ the Philippines, Tsunami warnings issued across several Asian countries

Описание: A strong magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off the southern Philippine island of Mindanao on June 8, Reuters reported. The earthquake damaged buildings in General Santos City, authorities are verifying reports of at least five deaths in southern city. The National Centre for Seismology in a post on X, said that earthquake occurred at 5:07 am IST, at a depth of 93 Kms. According to Reuters, Philippine Red Cross photos showed a partially collapsed building and a damaged building façade. Reuters said it was able to verify the location from business signages, buildings and a church which matched archive imagery of the area. Tsunami warnings were issued in the Philippines and neighbouring Indonesia by the U.S. Tsunami Warning System. The Philippines and Indonesia experience hundreds of quakes each year and sit on tectonically complex parts of the "Pacific Ring of Fire"
