A mini-review of the GT73VR 7RF Titan Pro (Core i7-7700HQ, 16GB RAM, 1080 GTX, 256GB+1TB).
Has a great 120Hz G-Sync display (FHD), plenty of port, easy to repaste/swap parts (if you break that warranty seal on the base!) Overall a very high-performance package. Has a wide selection of value-added MSI apps. Recommend pausing feature updates in Win 10 (Windows allows it to pause for 35 days), so you won't have missing/incompatible MSI core drivers (e.g. Nahimic/audio)
An obvious drawback is that at 4.6Kg (without 1.2KG charger), it's often desk-bound; the warranty option and general brand service speed is probably slower than Alienware in Europe, etc. If you press the fan button or are doing heavy work, you WILL notice the noise (v.loud). Overall - hoping more laptops get the 120Hz display.
A comment more generally about the MSI's software approach. You will need those drivers, to get the best from the laptop. After a clean install / Win10 feature updates, you'll need to reinstall some of these:
1: MSI driver site is not automated (it's time they looked at Dell's auto driver detection feature).
2: Some core drivers (e.g. Nahimic/audio) needs to be installed in the right order (can be confusing).
3: There is sometimes delay before these core drivers are available after Win 10 feature updates, v.awkward on a flagship system, feels less reliable/robust than Dell/AW's simpler audio options.
4. Given Win 10 now is on a bi-annual feature update cycle, there is less certainty if MSI will maintain their software beyond warranty period (nobody wants to be left in the cold without core drivers).
5. Awkwardly on MSI you can still flash the wrong bios (?) - competing solutions often have guard against flashing the wrong bios.
