Rev. Dr. Overton W. Ransom (d. 1883) was a pioneer Methodist minister and teacher in Apopka. He and his wife, Fannie, arrived in 1878, teaching in the local schoolhouse where Methodist services were also held. His stone, later joined by a newer marker, honors him simply as “Pioneer Methodist Minister.” Land records show the Ransoms purchased property from several early Apopka families, linking their story to the town’s beginnings. Though the dates are faint and records sometimes conflicting, Dr. Ransom’s legacy as a teacher and minister remains part of Apopka’s history.
