Duke Energy Ohio will replace its gas cost recovery (GCR) charge with a new Standard Service Offer (SSO) starting April 1. The SSO is a monthly variable rate offering a market-based price for natural gas. The GCR currently reflects Duke Energy's monthly projected gas purchase costs and updates each month; under the SSO, price is determined through an auction overseen by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) that selects natural gas suppliers. PUCO accepted Duke Energy's auction on February 17, locking in supplies for customers from April 1, 2026, through March 31, 2027. The monthly SSO rate combines the market price with a fixed retail price adjustment of $4 per dekatherm. The SSO will appear under Billing details — Gas. Existing customers need not take any action and will continue receiving gas supply. Consumers can compare SSO prices with other offers using PUCO's Energy Choice Ohio chart.
