Описание: The connection between Art and Science is not a new concept. Think of Da Vinici. However, as we have moved deeper into specialization, we have lost the power and synergy that comes from deliberate or chance connections between and across interdisciplinary divides. The missed opportunity and creation of new ideas and concepts. We have gained in deep knowledge, but lost windows of opportunity to create something new, different, and not previously imagined. In this talk, David Joel Thomas takes us through a chance encounter with a greenhouse, his role as ‘cross collaborative conjurer”, and the unintended consequences. Not just from the collaboration between Chicago artists Petra Bachmaier and Sean Gallero and Omaha Scientist Dr. John Kyndt..but what happened next David Joel Thomas is an Assistant Professor and Program Director of Creative Arts at Bellevue University. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Master of Arts in Philosophy from DePaul University. His dual training reflects his commitment to bridging the gap between critical research and creative synthesis. He organizes his multidisciplinary practice around anecdotal ecosystems that underpin indigeneity, transnational migration, and diaspora. Through the lens of his Near Eastern heritage as an Assyrian American and international upbringing in Pakistan, Turkey, and Afghanistan, his work explores that precise moment when it becomes possible to transform chaotic conditions into creative process. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
