28th July 2016 - On a rainy Thursday in Sheffield, hundreds of local people turned out for a unique event – a chance to get up close and personal with the canopy of a magnificent street tree that they would usually pass far beneath. The tree in question is the Chelsea Road Elm Tree – a healthy and much-loved 120 year old Huntingdon Elm that survived Dutch Elm Disease but now faces death at the hands of the council.
The campaign calling for a Tree Charter seeks to ensure that trees are valued as much as they deserve to be, so that situations like this do not arise. We need to celebrate trees and talk about why they matter before they are under threat or destroyed. It's too late when they've gone! Contribute to the charter by telling us why trees matter to you: http://treecharter.uk/share-your-story/
