When José Paronella first envisioned this melding of heavy industry and fantasy, it was met with skepticism.
José Paronella arrived in the Innisfall region in 1913, after coming to Australia to work on railroads in Sydney and later in the tin mines near Cloncurry.
He became obsessed with bringing some of the culture of his home to the new world where he had amassed a fortune buying and reselling cane farms.
At its height, the park was a social hub for the community and a resting spot for returning soldiers.
