by GrandMaster Senna Shaolin and Wudang Kung-Fu
A versatile weapon, the crescent halberd is often the choice of seasoned generals in Chinese military history. Its main function is to cut with its crescent blades, while also able to pierce like a normal spear. The technical advantage of a halberd is that its blades cuts like a sickle, and contact with another weapon will retain it within the crescent blade, making it suitable for locking thin weapons which are usually quicker.
In traditional Kung Fu we are differentiated from performance Wushu by the volume and weight of our weapons. Our spears and polearms are made of thick shafts constructed of solid material. The wushu spears use thin and flexible 'cane-like' shafts that will not hold itself in real combat.
Besides being sharp all around, the double crescent halberd also packs a very heavy chop because it has the weight of 2 blades, allowing it to cleave like an axe, if you can handle generate the power. The advantage of training in Kung Fu weapons such as the double crescent halberd is strength training benefit that you will get. It is sure to work your muscles as much as lifting free weights in the gym, while at the same time experiencing an ancient fighting system.
