Описание: In this video, we are going to continue our boat trip from Baltimore to Fastnet Rock Lighthouse and to Cape Clear Island. We visited the Cape Clear Island, known in Irish as Oileán Chléire which is the southernmost inhabited island of Ireland, located off the coast of County Cork in the Atlantic Ocean. This rugged, windswept island spans about three miles in length and one mile in width, offering a stunning mix of rocky cliffs, lush green pastures, and panoramic sea views. It is part of the Gaeltacht, meaning Irish is the primary spoken language, giving visitors a unique cultural experience. Rich in history and folklore, Cape Clear features ancient ruins, a 5,000-year-old Neolithic passage grave, and a lighthouse that has guided sailors since the 19th century. The island is a haven for wildlife, particularly seabirds and marine life, and is renowned among birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. With a small, close-knit community and a pace of life that invites reflection, Cape Clear Island offers a tranquil escape steeped in natural beauty and Irish heritage.
We visited also the Baltimore Beacon, often called the "Lot's Wife," is a striking white-painted stone structure perched on the cliffs at the entrance to Baltimore Harbour in County Cork, Ireland. Built around 1849 as a navigational aid, it was part of a series of lighthouses and beacons erected to guide ships safely through the treacherous waters of the southwestern coast. Standing about 15 meters tall, the beacon tapers to a rounded point and is clearly visible from sea and land, making it an iconic landmark of the area. Its brilliant whitewashed surface contrasts sharply with the rugged, windswept terrain around it, creating a dramatic silhouette against the Atlantic sky. Aside from its maritime function, the beacon has become a popular destination for walkers and photographers, offering sweeping views over the harbor, Roaringwater Bay, and the nearby islands, including Sherkin and Cape Clear. Steeped in local history and surrounded by natural beauty, the Baltimore Beacon symbolizes both safety and the enduring maritime heritage of West Cork.
