Letter recognition is an important building block for early reading and writing! This fun, hands-on activity helps children practice matching letters while strengthening fine motor skills.
This activity supports the development of key early literacy skills, including:
• Letter recognition (uppercase and/or lowercase)
• Visual matching and discrimination
• Print awareness
• Alphabet knowledge
• Hand-eye coordination and fine motor development
Try This at Home or in the Classroom:
Draw a large apple in your child’s journal or on a piece of paper.
Write the letters of the alphabet inside the apple.
On red dot stickers, write matching letters of the alphabet.
Invite your child to “decorate” the apple by placing each sticker on the matching letter.
Tip: Say each letter name out loud as your child matches it, and challenge older children to say the letter sound too!
This simple and quick activity is easy to set up and perfect for supporting literacy learning both at home and in the classroom.
