Описание: The January Uprising was a revolution in regions of the former Poland-Lithuania that was aimed at putting an end to Russian occupation and for the Poles to regain their independence. It began on 22 January 1863 and continued until the last insurgents were captured by the Russian Army.

A confluence of factors rendered the revolution inevitable in early 1863. Russia had been weakened by Crimean War and had introduced a partial liberalism in its internal politics which encouraged Polish National Government to plan an organized strike against Russian occupiers no earlier than the spring of 1863.
