Yaateeh! Aaron Tsosie here — the person behind the camera!
What a fantastic weekend! This year’s Roy Track Memorial Pow Wow was easily one of my favorites of 2025 — and possibly the most coverage I’ve ever documented in a single weekend! I filmed everything, live-streamed here on YouTube, did a few TikTok lives, took tons of photos and portraits, and even shared a few of my extra cameras with friends for more coverage. 📸
I always take lots of photos of my friends and families who dance and sing — I share them privately so they can download and use them however they like (just asking for credit, of course!). Be sure to follow me on Instagram (@IndigenousEventRecordings) where I share my favorite photos and post where I’ll be each month!
Now, let’s talk about the pow wow itself. I’ve always wondered why we don’t have a pow wow session on Friday night. Arizona’s daytime heat is still brutal this time of year, and most dancers arrive for the cooler evening grand entries. Friday’s Bird Singing was amazing — but imagine a weekend that includes Pow Wow, Bird Singing, Navajo Song & Dance, and local exhibitions all in one space. That would be incredible! Of course, I’m just here to document, review, and move on to the next event — never to influence, only to share.
One of the highlights for me this weekend was being recognized by my favorite Pow Wow MC, Dennis Bowen. I set up my livestream station next to his MC table, and he got to see firsthand how much work goes into documenting these events. He’s aware that I send photos of him and his wife Alita to their daughter Annabell — so it was special to see him glance over at my monitor and watch my footage during the night sessions. He gave me a few shoutouts throughout the weekend, and even though he didn’t know my channel name (Indigenous Event Recordings), it still meant so much when he said, “We’re live on YouTube!”
This pow wow also marked Indigenous Event Recordings’ third birthday! 🎉
It’s wild to think how far we’ve come. Soon, I’ll be launching my first podcast, featuring interviews with friends and guests like Dennis Bowen — at least once a month to start. I’m also working on growing my photography page (@AaronTsosiePhotography) and producing more short documentaries when my budget allows. You’ll be seeing my face more on this channel soon!
Ahe’hee for supporting my work and helping me continue this journey. Every view, comment, and thumbs up helps more than you know. If you’d like to support future events — covering meals, travel, or lodging — you can send a tip via Venmo → @ImAaronToasty 💙
Next stop: Red Mountain Pow Wow! It’s going to be HUGE!
