I talk to a lot of people for this job: scientists, fans, public relations people, other video creators, baristas (so many baristas), and in the last few years I've noticed something concerning… eye contact appears to be disappearing. In conversations, people are making eye contact less and less, and it's not just something I've noticed! Holding eye contact is a social superpower, but without practice, we might just lose it….
Our #bodylanguage is a huge part of our #communication, and if we sever the connection with each other IRL and focus only on our mobile device, or if we don't practice #eyecontact, then we will lose it as a skill. What could that mean? How do we make good eye contact? I found some social science to find out…
Quick note: My goal in every video is to make you feel something, think something, or talk to a friend about what you learned. If any of those apply to you, please consider subscribing to the channel, or sharing the video with your friends on social media! A few seconds of effort on your end really goes a long way, and thanks for even reading this paragraph, it means a lot. 💕

~~~~~ 🐣 EASTER EGGS FOR READERS 🐣 ~~~~~
P.S - In my research, I made some notes about different levels of eye contact around the world! Not everyone has the same nonverbal communication. I thought you nerds who read the description might like this:
Saudi Arabia: Common during conversation, helps determine trustworthiness
India: common, except amongst members of other sex
China: steady eye contact not common. "Steady eye contact is viewed as inappropriate, especially when subordinates talk with their superiors. Eye contact is sometimes viewed as a gesture of challenge or defiance. When people get angry, they tend to maintain steady eye contact." Direct eye contact is generally favoured over indirect eye contact. It is considered a sign of politeness.
UK: It is best to make direct eye contact that breaks away now and again. Prolonged eye contact can make people feel uncomfortable, and staring is impolite. If talking to a group, be sure to make equal eye contact with all who are present.
US: Eye contact should be maintained directly. It demonstrates warmth, openness, honesty and approachability. If you make eye contact with a stranger in passing (on the street, at a shop, in a hallway, etc.) give a small smile or nod to acknowledge them. Continuing on your way without doing so means your were simply staring or unfriendly, and is considered slightly rude. Eye contact is good as long as it is not confrontational (don't stare). It usually denotes interest and understanding
